On to Anchorage
After a very early rise yesterday for our boat tour, we enjoyed a nice leisurely morning today. Slept (relatively) late, breakfast at 9, packed up, and checked out of our room at the Glacier Bay Lodge a bit past noon. Kerrie wasn't feeling her best, so she took care of some business in the lodge common room and I went out for a walk on a path to try my hand at some more macro shots. I took 2+ hours on a 30 minute trail. Good times. You can jump to the newest picture or view the whole Alaska set.
After a late lunch we headed to the airport and flew to Anchorage. The big snafu here was that we arrived at 8:30 PM only to learn that our rental car company (a local outfit) closed at 6 PM! We had booked through Travelocity so Kerrie gave them a call. The first guy was no help, and even hung up on Kerrie, so I called back and turned on the "angry business traveler" mode. We ended up getting assurances that they'd reimburse us for the difference in cost renting from anybody, so we went back inside and found ourselves a car. Highly annoying (I don't like having to get amped up on vacation and I could feel that I was still in "go mode" long afterwards) but we only ended up losing an hour all told. Plus, we actually got a better price on the last-minute rental then we had on our original!
The last bit of news is that I figured out how to get my pictures to show up on the map on Flickr. I've been carrying a small GPS tracker with me and then automatically matching up the times from the tracker and the pictures to place them on a map exactly, but Flickr wasn't recognizing the coordinates until I changed a setting. Now it works like a charm! Unfortunately, I had to delete and re-upload all the pictures to get it to work so I lost some comments and "favorite" designations, but it's worth it to see them all mapped out. When you look at the map make sure to use the arrows in the filmstrip towards the bottom to select another set. Zoom in to see only pictures in one area, or you can see the map for a particular set by going to the set and clicking "map" near the top (or jump straight to the maps for Alaska or French Polynesia).
Now I have to go try to sleep. This "light out until past midnight" is wigging my brain out.
