First Day in Copenhagen

We're sitting in our hotel room in Copenhagen, trying to overcome jet lag-induced inertia enough to put together a blog post. We got into town yesterday at about 3pm after flying to Vancouver, then London, then Copenhagen, taking a train into the city center and walking a little less than a mile to our hotel. We managed to fight jet lag and stay awake until 9ish, but that's all we did.

Today we woke up surprisingly late and had an awesome (included) breakfast at the hotel. A smörgåsbord of bread, cheese, meet, cereal, granola, juice, sweet breads (not the glands, real sweet bread with almonds or chocolate), and more. We stocked up and then bought a bus pass at the front desk. The bus system here is great and even better our hotel is one short, direct bus ride straight into the middle of old/downtown Copenhagen. That was especially handy today because it rained on and off all day--sometimes *hard*. Many of the museums and other cultural attractions are closed on Mondays so we decided to just wander around the middle of town to get our bearings and check out some of the shops and old churches.

The highlight of the day was a chair. We went into a big department store of Danish design and came across an amazing modern leather recliner. It was super comfortable, compact, swiveled, and looked nothing like a recliner. Like fools we didn't think to take a picture of it. Considering the couch next to it cost $15,000 after currency conversion it's probably out of our league (it had no price which is always dangerous) but now we'll have our eye out for it or something like it from our local modern furniture stores.

It was a low-volume picture day, but here are a few I snapped. I didn't spend the time to link all the photos directly, but click here to see the start of a "Scandinavian Vacation" set I'll be maintaining on Flickr.
