Shafted

The weather has been intermittently cool and I've been looking forward to making lots of soup. Leaving PCC last Monday, excited about cooking and seeking maximum efficiency, I dug for my keys as I got on the elevator -- and pulled them out just in time to drop them in the crack between the floor of the store and the floor of the elevator.

Building maintenance said they'd be out as soon as they could... but it might not be until the next day. The store manager intervened and building maintenance said they would be there post-haste.

I redirected elevator traffic, which included an elderly woman with a large, awkward basket. An hour later, I watched three men ride up and down in the elevator, trying to fish out my keys with a device akin to an unbent hanger.

I still got home in time to make two of the three soups and the only casualty was a bag of frozen corn. And I got a good story out of the deal.
