Two Weeks of Progress
We returned home last night to a living room with windows and the beginnings of cabinets. It already looks so much better than we imagined it would.

This is the right side of the fireplace wall (obviously). The cabinets to the left of the fireplace are the same except that the wide cabinet with the shelf is open for the TV.

The casing around the door frames will be more dramatic with paint, but this simple addition makes the room look more finished.

The glass in the windows is meant to mimic the look of old glass. It isn't quite the same, but still looks great. The view is of the trellis on our neighbors' deck. I plan to drop not-so-subtle hints about planting vines to grow up it.
Coming home to progress also meant coming home to lots of dust and a smell not unlike dirty diapers (we attribute this to the floor finishing). I'm off to clean the bedroom and office so that there are places in the house that don't smell like baby poop. Or I could bring back a drink from Caffe Ladro every hour so that coffee is the dominant aroma. I think I'll do both.
