Honolulu Layover

Forgive if I ramble. It has been a long day and I'm sitting on the floor of the Honolulu airport so I can use an outlet to recharge the laptop.

Our travel itinerary gave us a 10+ hour layover in Honolulu on the way to Auckland. There's only one flight a day on Air New Zealand that leaves Honolulu at 11:50pm, and we had few choices that would get us in early enough to make sure that we'd make that flight. Anyway, we got in and decided to make the most of the waiting, so we went downstairs and rented a car for the day. With no real destination in mind we set out wandering, and soon discovered that "authentic Honolulu" means "Macy's and Burger King". Anyway, we were starving, and as irony has it, we only saw one place that a) was convenient and b) wasn't fast food.

Even now, I'm so ashamed! Still, it was a good burger and gave us what we needed to tackle the town. Besides, if there's anything more authentic Honolulu than Burger King, it's the Hard Rock! After our David Bowie-infused pit stop, we made it down to Waikiki beach to take a look at the famous sand and surf.

Afterwards, we did a little impromptu self-guided driving tour of eastern Oahu, and then came back to the airport. All-in-all the layover worked out well. Now we are just waiting for the plane to board in a couple hours, and we'll be off to New Zealand!
